Recovery from Breast Enlargement Surgery

What will the recovery from breast enlargement surgery be like?
Recovery from breast enlargement surgery is generally well tolerated by patients.  There will be pain in the breasts and area of incision, and you will be given medications to help with this pain.  The guaze placed around the incision will be removed within a few days by your surgeon in a follow-up visit.  Your surgeon will check to make sure that the incision is healing well without any infection.  The sutures are usually removed within one to two weeks.  The breasts may remain swollen for up to two months after the surgery, and pain or numbness in the nipples is common.  In most patients, this will subside over the next few months.  For more information, please visit the Society of Plastic Surgeons page on recovery from plastic surgery.
